Video asks for your attention and camera right away. Text lets you begin more gradually.
You can say hello, see whether the conversation feels natural, and decide how much you want to share before choosing another way to continue. For some users, that makes text a more comfortable first step than opening with video.
Written conversation
Text chat is for direct written conversation with another person. It gives you a way to start talking without making video the first requirement.
Use it when you want to focus on the conversation itself, when you are not ready to be on camera, or when writing feels easier than starting face to face.
Choose text first when you want a slower start and more time to decide whether the conversation is worth continuing.
Choose video first when you want immediate face-to-face interaction.
